Hi, I'm Anna. I was born in British Columbia, Canada but spent most of my life in Delaware and Maryland. I finished my undergraduate degree in Santa Fe, New Mexico and after a year teaching first grade, I moved to Guadalajara, Mexico where I received my Masters in Education. From 2008-2021, I co-owned and managed barVino and bV cellars despite having never waited tables or taken a wine class. Fortunately, people were generous with their expertise and I was able to surround myself with an incredible group of mentors, learning more each day. Opening a wine bar and restaurant in the Adirondacks with my family was one of the craziest things I have ever done (including moving to Mexico without a job). And yes, we all still like each other!
Expanding bV cellars and changing the brand to "the cellar" made perfect sense after barVino sold in June 2021. Now I can focus on exposing my guests to amazing wines from around the world, hosting wine tastings, expanding the cellar wine club and continuing to cater & shuck oysters with Whisk and Wine.
I'm looking forward to growth in all areas of my life - from personal to business - and to continuing my wine education. I believe that wine should be fun, not stuffy and love that ah-ha moment when people discover a wine that they love! I also believe that this is a long-overdue moment in the wine business to amplify voices that have been in the background for far too long. There are so many amazing winemakers out there who are doing things outside the box and from a different perspective - it's exciting stuff even if there is still a lot of work to be done.
